I loved to read Dr. Seuss to my younger brother.  Reading was difficult for me but when I read Dr. Seuss books the words just seemed to flow right out my mouth.  His books always made me feel smart.

When you were a child did you ever have moments when you decided that you were going to be a writer when you grew up?

Yes, I always knew I wanted to do something special that made me stand out in life.  When I was a child a had the chance to play a game where you were given a certain amount of money to buy what was important to you in life.  I chose to be remembered.  I don’t know why but I always had a strong feeling after that I would be a writer.

What audience did you have in mind for your career as a writer - adult or children?

Children

What are the topics of your books?

MY DOG BLUE is a rhyming story of a little boy who can’t get his dog to follow his commands.  But instead of giving up, he decides to look for the uniqueness in his dog, something that makes his dog special too.  EVERY TIME I WANT TO PLAY BROTHER AND SISTER GET IN MY WAY is a book that I wrote to give my oldest child a different way of looking at why his younger twin siblings always seemed to want what he had.

What kinds of things inspire you to write?

My children’s challenges growing up always gave me the inspiration I needed to come up with a story for them.

When is your next book going to be in book stores?

I am hoping I will have two new books summer 2010.  PRISCILLA PLAY AND NEW PUPPY are currently in the publishing process.

When you do school visits, what question do children ask you most?

The schools I visit are mostly preschools and kindergarten classes.  The children mainly want to share their own stories with me.
